DVStorm Windows XP Manual Device Driver Installation Before you start this procedure you will want to know what folder contains the uncompressed driver files. If you do not know this information, take a few minutes to locate it and have it handy (you will be needing it shortly). If you do NOT want to use your DVStorm as a Video for Windows device OR to Capture directly to MPEG, then you can skip Step 2. Otherwise follow all steps. 1. Uninstall your current version of the Canopus software. Do this from the Add/Remove Programs window. Also delete from the C:\WINNT\system32 folder, (may be C:\WINDOWS\System32) any files beginning with “STM”. This will clear the older drivers from the system. 2. Now we will install the drivers for the DVStorm card. Start by opening the Device Manager in Windows. You can do this by right clicking on the My Computer icon then selecting Properties. When the System Properties window comes up click on the Hardware tab, then click on the Device Manager button. 3. When the Device Manager is open double click on the Sound, Video, and Game Controllers icon. You should see the DV Storm-RT listed. If you do not see it there, it may be under Other Devices as a Multimedia controller. Double click on the DV Storm-RT (or multimedia controller) to open the DV Storm-RT Properties window. 4. In the DV Storm-RT Properties window click on the Driver Tab, then on the Update Driver... button. 5. You will now see the first screen of the Windows Update Device Driver Wizard. On this screen you will have two choices. "Install the software automatically (recommended)" and "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)". Choose "Install from a list or specific location". Click Next. On this screen you will have two more choices. "Search for the best drivers in these locations." And "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install". Choose the "Don't search, I will choose....." option. Click next. 6. Now the "Select a Device Driver" window will be displayed. Click on the Have Disk... button. Click on Browse in the Install From Disk windows that comes up. Browse to the folder that you have uncompressed the drivers to and find the DVStorm-RT.INF file. Double click on this DVStorm-RT.INF and the Install From Disk window will be back up. Click OK and the "Select a Device Driver" window will be displayed again. Click Next. 7. Click Next at the "Start Device Driver Installation" window. A window will appear informing you that the Microsoft Digital Signature cannot be found for this device. Click Yes to continue the installation anyway. 8. Now the "Completing the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard" screen will be displayed. Click on Finish, then click on the Close button to close the DV Storm-RT Properties window. You will be prompted to restart the computer. Click Yes to restart the computer. 9. Run the DVStorm Software setup. Double click on the SETUP.exe file from the DVStorm folder on the CD or located in the folder that you extracted the downloaded file into earlier. Once this install is complete you will be asked to restart your computer again. 10. Access the folder that you extracted the Media Cruise software to. Open the Media Cruise folder by double clicking on it. Run the SETUP.exe file within that folder. Follow the onscreen instructions and reboot the computer if instructed to do so. The next section is for customers who need to install the the Storm Encoder software. If you are not using the Storm Hardware encoder please disregard this next portion of the install. For this you will need to have the 1.02 or later version of the Storm encoder software. Download and extract the software (remember where this folder is). 11. Access the folder that you extracted the Storm encoder software to. Open the Storm Encoder folder by double clicking on it. Run the SETUP.exe file within. Follow the onscreen instructions. At some point you will be asked which components you would like to install. Make sure the box for “media cruise plugins” is checked off. Restart the computer when told to do so. The installation of your DVStorm is now complete. Enjoy.
